Home to twenty wineries, Amador County produces some of the finest Zinfandel in the world, much of it crafted from vines dating to the 19th Century.

The climate and soil is ideal for producing quality wine grapes. Where gold once reigned, today's treasure is the superb wines, which have earned Amador County international prominence.

Amador vintners are actively introducing stylish, new Rhone and Italian varietals, including Syrah, Viognier, Barbera and Sangiovese. These wines have earned awards and enthusiastic praise from critics and wine lovers worldwide.

Visiting the wineries of Amador County is a delight. Many are small family operations where the owner is likely to welcome you into the tasting room and unpretentious hospitality is the norm. Here is one we would like to suggest: Story Winery.

Our guests often comment that wine tasting in Amador County is like treasure hunting. All are located along scenic back roads in some of the most picturesque rural settings in California. Amador County wineries are easy to reach, nestled between Highways 50 and 88 along historic Highway 49.
